Although the Republican presidential candidate's enthusiasm for oil drilling once caused a rise in energy stocks, Wall Street professionals are now largely avoiding this part of the "Trump trade." The reason is simple. Fund managers have warned that any policy seeking to increase oil & gas production could disrupt the fragile supply-demand balance and lower fossil fuel prices. While this should help reduce consumer energy expenses, it is unlikely to be a panacea for increasing energy industry profits and thus boosting stock prices.
