Court Rules Williams Project OK to Cross Path of Energy Transfer Pipeline
New York Fed President Williams: Natural interest rates have remained low.
John Williams, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York who has conducted in-depth research on the natural interest rate (r-star), refuted recent claims that the natural interest rate has risen since the outbreak of the pandemic. In the speech he prepared for the European Central Bank Forum on Wednesday, Williams referred to recent estimates that r-star in the United States and the eurozone is close to the level before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Although these two estimates show some short-term fluctuations, the main common feature is that r-star has been declining steadily by two percentage points over the past 30 years," he said. "The same pattern also applies to our forecasts for Canada."
