Wilmar Sugar and Renewables, Australia's largest sugar company has temporarily closed its sugar factories due to worker strikes.
Australia's largest sugar company, Wilmar Sugar and Renewables, announced on Thursday that it will shut down its eight sugar factories for up to 16 hours due to a strike by union workers demanding higher wages. Wilmar Sugar and Renewables, a subsidiary of Singapore's Wilmar International, said the shutdown will result in growers losing about 2.3 million dollars of income and added that another strike is planned for July 24. Wilmar Sugar and Renewables is Australia's largest sugar producer, producing more than 2 million tons of sugar annually.
