According to reports, Amazon's (AMZN.US) cloud division AWS plans to reduce its investment in Datacenter infrastructure company ZT Systems. ZT Systems is currently being acquired by AMD (AMD.US). According to an internal document, AWS spent nearly 2 billion dollars on ZT Systems' products and services last year. An unnamed AWS employee stated that Amazon plans to reduce spending by 2025 as the company intends to build more internal Datacenter components. The report mentioned that while AWS is seeking to cut costs, it still maintains a Business relationship with ZT Systems.
AMD is currently acquiring the AI infrastructure provider ZT Systems through a combination of Cash and Stocks, with a transaction value of approximately 4.9 billion dollars. This acquisition will help AMD expand its Datacenter and AI system capabilities. AMD expects this deal to add value on a non-GAAP basis by the end of 2025. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.
ZT Systems has over 15 years of experience designing and deploying Datacenter AI computing and storage infrastructure for the world's largest cloud companies. ZT Systems' design, integration, manufacturing, and deployment capabilities make it one of the leading providers of AI training and inference infrastructure. Notably, NVIDIA has been a customer of ZT Systems, which once provided AI services for the GB200 GPU products, placing the two companies in an upstream-downstream relationship.
ZT Systems has extensive experience in manufacturing Server computers for large Datacenter owners — while Datacenter firms are investing billions of dollars into new AI capabilities. The acquisition of ZT Systems by AMD will enhance its Datacenter technology, which will strengthen its ability to challenge NVIDIA (NVDA.US). AMD CEO Lisa Su stated in a statement that this acquisition will "significantly strengthen our Datacenter AI systems."
AMD is the second-largest supplier of graphics processors, which are critical for developing AI Software. AMD emphasized that the acquisition of ZT Systems is the latest in a series of investments by the company aimed at significantly enhancing its AI capabilities. Over the past 12 months, in addition to increasing organic research and development activities, AMD has invested over 1 billion dollars to expand the AMD AI ecosystem and enhance the company's AI Software capabilities.
