MarketWatch: Why brokerages are pushing investor education

(MarketWatch) -- Social media has opened up the door to learn about all sorts of things — including investing.

“It’s not supposed to be gambling at the end of the day,” Nate Palmer, president of online brokerage Moomoo Financial told MarketWatch. “And that’s sadly how some non-registered or inexperienced people within the industry view it. They go into it thinking ‘I’m taking this gamble’ and oftentimes it doesn’t pay off. So then they leave with this notion in their mind that the stock market is just a place to gamble.”

He continued, “It [discredits] what we all are trying to accomplish, and it doesn’t have to be true.”
