The increase in data centers is leading to a rapid increase in carbon emissions, and there is also an acceleration in decarbonization investments.

According to a research report released by the major US financial firm Morgan Stanley on the 2nd, it is estimated that by 2030, about 25 billion tons of CO2 equivalent emissions will occur worldwide due to the rapid increase in data centers. At the same time, investments in decarbonization are also accelerating.
Major cloud operators such as Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon.com are expanding their data centers that consume large amounts of electricity with the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing technologies.
On the other hand, these companies have promised to significantly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from their data centers by 2030.
The report points out that this will create a large market for decarbonization solutions. The greenhouse gas emissions from the global data center industry are estimated to be equivalent to about 40% of the total annual emissions in the USA.
The construction of large-scale data centers is expected to boost investment in clean energy development, high-energy-efficient equipment, and green building materials.
In addition, the carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) processes are also expected to grow.
