December 3, 2024 0:14 JST
Mr. Bezos and Samsung participate in 700 million dollars fundraising by Tenstorrent.
Also partnering with Rapids, aiming to disrupt Nvidia's dominance in AI semiconductors.
Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos participated in a 700 million dollar fundraising round, evaluating Tenstorrent's corporate value at approximately $2.6 billion (about 390 billion yen). Tenstorrent aims to disrupt Nvidia's dominance in artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors.
The fundraising round was led by South Korea's AFW Partners and Samsung Securities, with participation from Mr. Bezos's investment firm Bezos Expeditions, as well as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Fidelity, and others. Tenstorrent's founder and prominent semiconductor engineer Jim Keller revealed this in an interview.
The raised funds will be utilized for strengthening the engineering team, investing in the global supply chain, and building large-scale AI training servers.
As the movement to seek further power and cost efficiency for AI semiconductors accelerates, startups are emerging one after another trying to take away market share from Nvidia. Tenstrant, partnering with Japan's Rapidus, is one of them.
Tenstrant plans to release a new AI processor every two years, Mr. Keller said.
