US initial jobless claims decreased by 4,000 to 0.218 million, the lowest level in 4 months.

The number of initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ending on the 21st, as announced by the US Department of Labor on the 26th, decreased by 4,000 from the previous week, reaching 218,000, the lowest level in four months since mid-May. This decline was contrary to economists' estimates (225,000).
Indicating that the number of layoffs remains at a low level, there is a possibility that concerns about the health of the labor market may ease.
Christopher Lapkey, Chief Economist at FWDBONDS, stated, "Federal Reserve Chairman Powell does not want the unemployment rate to rise further, and the weekly data on initial claims for unemployment insurance does not suggest such a trend."
The number of non-seasonally adjusted claims decreased by 5,957 to 180,878. Significant declines were observed in the states of New York and Texas.
The number of continuing claims for the week ending on the 14th increased by 13,000 to 1,834,000. However, there has been a decreasing trend from the record high levels seen in July, the highest in two and a half years.
