The possibility of the US economy being in a recession at the moment is extremely low
It's a good thing that the Federal Reserve is being cautious, there is "considerable" room for maneuvering.
Former Federal Reserve Board (FRB) economist Claudia Sahm stated that while the USA is not yet in a recession, it is "uncomfortably close" to it. Furthermore, US financial authorities indicated the possibility of adjusting their approach to account for increasing risks.
On Bloomberg television, Sahm commented on the unexpected rise in the unemployment rate in July employment statistics, saying, "Such an increase in the unemployment rate was consistent with the early stages of a recession in the past."She added, "It may not be the case currently, but we are uncomfortably close to that situation."
