The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) Volatility Index (VIX), which is a volatility index for the S&P 500 stock price index, surged to 65.73 at one point on the 5th. On a Japan-China transaction basis, it recorded a high level since 2020/3, when the novel coronavirus pandemic (global pandemic) was at its peak. VIX continued to fall below 20 at the end of October last year, contributing to keeping the S&P 500 in a narrow range for most of this year.
