Singapore Telecom (Singtel for short, stock code Z74) is the largest telecommunications company in Singapore. It was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in Singapore. As of 2020, the company had 22,914 full-time employees.
Singtel has a dominant position in Singapore, controlling 82% of the fixed network market, 47% of the mobile market, and 43% of the broadband market. The company also has a significant market share in Australia.
In recent years, Singtel has made some progress in digital transformation. In 2015, the company launched a Skype and WhatsApp competitor called Wavee. In 2020, Singtel and Grab Foundation jointly obtained a digital banking license in Singapore.
My opinion on Singtel
As Singapore's largest telecommunications company, Singtel dominates the local market. The company has clear advantages in terms of infrastructure, customer base, and brand awareness.
From a financial perspective, Singtel's performance has declined in recent years. In 2021, the company sold 70% of its Australian subsidiary Optus telecom infrastructure shares for 1.9 billion Australian dollars. This may indicate that Singtel is concentrating on growing its core business.
