I’m new to investing. For the last few months, I’ve been DCA’ing into an ETF bi-weekly which I plan to do for the next 20-30 years.
Today I purchased $500 of $Alphabet-A (GOOGL.US)$ and $500 of $Microsoft (MSFT.US)$ , which I don’t plan to add to but instead just hold for the next 20-30 years as well. My question is whether this was pointless and if I would have been better off just putting the $1000 into the ETF?

The Russia-Ukraine war has caused a series of supply chain issues, and the frequent rate hikes by the Federal Reserve due to inflation have intensified the volatility of the US stock market since late August.
The S&P 500 index plummeted from its relative high of 4325 on August 16 to 3640 as of September 29, a 16% decrease.

The panic index VIX rose from 19.5 to 31.8 during the same period. The higher the VIX index, the more panicked the market is, and investors are more uncertain about the economic situation, and they should retreat from high-risk stocks.

Then, during this uncertain period, the typically stable performance of Apple's stock price plummeted.
So, what happened to Apple?
Apple has always been a stock that Uncle pays attention to. In a bad stock market situation, AAPL is considered to have strong resistance to declines among FAANG stocks. From the end of June to September 29, in the three months, the overall market fell by 4.6%, while AAPL fell by 2.3%, and its recent trend aligns with the overall market.
However, in the recent 5 trading days, AAPL has dropped by 6.7%, which is even higher than the market's 3% decrease.

On Wednesday, September 28th, Bloomberg reported that Apple did not see the high demand it expected for its new iPhone 14, so it informed some suppliers that it was canceling their plans to increase production. The stock price fell 1.3% to 149.8 that day.
