Yancoal Australia Ltd. (Yancoal) is the largest producer of pure coal in Australia. Yancoal operates five mines and manages five others in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, and also accounts for around 50% of the Middlemount joint venture. Yancoal currently has around 5,500 employees, most of whom come from the local communities where it operates. Yancoal's New South Wales region of Australia includes the Hunter Valley Operation Mine, Mount Solihwark Worth, Fort Moraben, and the Stratford-LaTilly mining area, while the Queensland region includes joint ventures in Araby and Zhongshan. Yancoal is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, representing its majority shareholder, Yanzhou Coal Industry Co., Ltd. (Yanzhou Coal) and the Ashton, Austar, and Donaldson underground mines in the New South, which manage Cameby Downs and Premier coal mines in Queensland and Western Australia respectively. Wales represents Watagan Mining Company Pty Ltd (Watagan). As of September 1, 2017, Yancoal has issued 43,459,388,122 shares. The two largest shareholders are Yanzhou Coal Industry, with a shareholding ratio of 65.46%, and Cinda International 16.7%. In 2016, Yancoal produced about 16 million tons of saleable (equity) thermal and metallurgical coal for export to international markets.
