<Expansion and precision of Sewerage pipe inspections following the road subsidence accident in Yashio City> In response to the road subsidence accident in Yashio City, Saitama Prefecture, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is set to expand the scope of regular inspections for major Sewerage pipes. As of the end of September last year, the Sewerage pipes subject to inspections every five years reached 3,463 kilometers, which corresponds to 7% of the total national length of 490,000 kilometers. However, the Sewerage pipes in Yashio City, where the subsidence accident occurred, were not included in the inspection scope. Nevertheless, when Saitama Prefecture inspected this Sewerage pipe in 2021, some corrosion was found.
