[Weekly Syrup] "Chip" in earnings! Can Mag 7 "mag"nify your profits?
Hey mooers!
Guess who's chip-chip-cheering their way to the bank? That's right, $AMD.US$ crushed it in the silicon showdown of Q2! They didn't just meet the bar; they pole-vaulted over revenue and profit forecasts, giving the market a high-five with their chip swagger.

So, here's the scoop in chip land: AMD's Q2 treasure chest swelled by a cool 9% year-over-year, hitting a whopping $5.8 billion. The data center biz brought home nearly half the bacon with 48%, while the client and gaming/embedded chip sectors each tossed in a 26% slice of the pie. But wait, there's more – their gross margin puffed up like a proud peacock, up by 3% to a sleek 49%.
Now, hold onto your circuit boards because AMD's net income didn't just jump; it practically teleported up by a jaw-dropping 881%, ringing in at $265 million. That's a lot of zeros, folks! Earnings per share? A smidge above forecasts at $0.69, because why not add a cherry on top?

So, let's give it up for AMD, making chips rain and leaving the market all a-buzz!
If you want to share you P/L, or just feelings and random thoughts, gather here!
But before other recaps, let's look at something different:
What's Moo'ed?
"What's Moo'ed" is a space that captures fun, newsworthy, jaw-dropping and sometimes confusing (lmao) news clips for mooers so that you know this is a colorful world (or a weird and speechless one).
1) Speedy pride
Trudeau makes unscheduled stop at Vancouver’s Pride events but does not walk in parade. Forgive him folks. He had to rush to make the next uninvited visit. It looks like he got a "Trudoor", with which he can show up anywhere. I guess he could be a good NPC in a haunted house to scare kids after his retirement.
2) Not in chip anymore. So chin up!
Intel is trimming its workforce by a hefty 15% – that's over 15,000 positions getting the chop as Intel gears up for a $10 billion belt-tightening strategy by 2025. This means that over 15,000 people will be "Outel". Lays, please come and hire. They are all good at making chips.
3) Lazy people's ultimate dream is about to come true
Neuralink has successfully implanted in a second patient its device designed to give paralyzed patients the ability to use digital devices by thinking alone, according to the startup's owner Elon Musk. So next time, if your bumble match says she's not moved at all. Maybe she meant it, literally.

4) A city that never sleeps, and never sober.
Montreal is setting the stage for round-the-clock entertainment. After Berlin and Tokyo, Montreal is proposing a designated downtown zone where establishments can keep their doors open and the drinks flowing 24-hours. Now some people can keep their "spirit" up in the early morning.

Okay, let's dive back to the syrup:
Please, cut please.
On July 30, all eyes were on the FOMC meeting, where hints of a possible interest rate reduction in September kept the target range steady at 5.25%-5.50%. Jerome Powell indicated a rate cut could be on the table if inflation aligns with their 2% goal. This whiff of potential easing sent the US stock market soaring to its biggest one-day leap since February, with the NASDAQ jumping 2.64% and market mood swinging to bullish.

Adding fuel to the rate cut fire is the cooling US job market, underscored by the latest ADP employment figures showing a notable downturn, hitting a two-year low in growth. Powell has expressed his resolve not to let the job market freeze over. Consequently, US Treasury yields dipped as traders bet big on a September rate cut, with some even betting the Fed will slash rates again before year's end. Read more>>
Apple is fine
Apple (AAPL.US) surpassed earnings projections in its Q3 report, but its stock still fell 1.68%, closing at $218.36 on August 1st. It recovered slightly after hours to $219.65. iPhone sales slightly underperformed yet exceeded expectations at $39.3 billion.
The iPad revenue saw a significant boost to $7.16 billion, crushing estimates, while Mac sales modestly beat forecasts at $7.01 billion. Wearables and accessories slightly declined but outperformed expectations, and service revenue climbed to $24.213 billion, also beating predictions. Read more>>

And some mooers are already profiting from it.

What do you feel and think of all these events? No clue yet? Let's see some other mooers' ideas and questions:
AMD seems to be the only major tech firm that isn't suffering massively from some bad decisions, is this more so just trends or an actual value of business issues?
be very careful if you're going to step in here and buy there are a lot of compelling reasons that AMD is going to take a huge percentage of Intel's chip business for personal computing from Hewlett-Packard and Dell that they're going to school use AMD and drop Intel..
Yesterday’s FOMC has a clear message. Sep will cut interest rate. This is good news for Nvidia as they will save millions or even billions  on interest rates alone.
What do you think of the AMD and FOMC? And what's your take on other hot issues in the past week? How they can earn you more money(we pray that for you)?

  • 102362254 : Given the current market volatility, it might be wise to hold onto cash and capitalize on buying opportunities for solid stocks during market downturns. I'm exploring options to hedge against potential downside risks too.

  • mr_cashcow : Right now Bank of Japan have increased interest rate resulting in market to sell off to pay back the loan so some things are potentially trading at a discount now but with the kind of volatility it might be wiser to observe for a while more before making any decisions[undefined]
